Precept 2026/27
Parishioners may have noticed a ~70% reduction in the precept contained in their recent Dorset Council Tax bill.
This resulted from an error in relation to the 2026/27 precept.
While this means reduced receipts for Langton Matravers Parish Council (LMPC) in 2026/27, because the Council has operated prudent financial management over many years we have a healthy reserve position.
The Council has reviewed its financial position and is confident that we can absorb this shortfall in the near term. However, LMPC also considers that it is prudent to re-establish reserves over the coming years.
This means that parishioners will definitely benefit from a ~70% reduction in the precept this year, but there will likely be a surcharge on top of the normal precept spread over the coming years to reduce the impact.
LMPC will discuss this matter further over the coming months and would welcome views from parishioners.
The precept and surcharge for 2027/28 will be set at the December meeting.
